Mega Windforce is taking the next step in the development of the WhisperRing wind turbine. Following the successful development and extensive testing of a functional proof of concept, as well as the development and testing of the drivetrain for the commercial WR20kW, the company is now focusing on the construction and validation of the commercial prototype. At the same time, preparations are underway for the subsequent stages of certification, preproduction, scalable manufacturing and international market introduction.
WhisperRing is therefore increasingly moving from technology development towards product development and commercialisation. Production partners, sales channels and international markets are already being prepared to minimise the time between validation and market launch.
Initial commercial interest has now become tangible. In Greece, a Letter of Intent has been signed with a distributor for 3,000 WhisperRing turbines. In the United Kingdom, Mega Windforce is in discussions with potential resellers. In addition, the company is working with international partners towards establishing its first production facility.
“The next step is more than building a prototype,” says Marcel Clerx, CEO of Mega Windforce. “We have reached a stage where it makes sense to invest in parallel in certification, production, distribution and international market development. By starting that work now, we aim to move more quickly from a validated product to actual production and delivery.”
Lower costs for locally generated wind energy
WhisperRing has been developed for a segment of the wind energy market in which conventional solutions, according to Mega Windforce, still face relatively high energy costs. The first commercial model, the WR20kW, is aimed at applications including business parks, energy hubs, energy communities such as agricultural cooperatives, microgrids and locations with a strong need for local energy generation.
At the heart of the design is its patented ring-shaped architecture. Mega Windforce combines this technology with an automated manufacturing process for lightweight composite components. Under suitable wind conditions, the company is targeting energy costs for the WR20kW that are 30 to 50 percent lower than those of comparable small wind turbines.
Investors can participate in the next phase
To accelerate the transition towards a production-ready WR20kW, Mega Windforce is opening a €1.5 million investment round through Eyevestor. According to the company, €1 million of this amount has already been committed by the management team. More than €2 million has previously been invested in the development of WhisperRing by the management, supported by angel investors and innovation grants.
The new funding will be used for the construction and validation of the commercial WR20kW prototype, the subsequent preproduction series, further optimisation and preparations for scalable manufacturing.
Private investors can participate from €500 and will receive certificates representing an economic interest in Mega Windforce. The company has a pre-money valuation of €15 million for this investment round.
“We want investors not only to participate financially in the company, but also to follow its development closely,” says Marcel Clerx. “The coming period will show how technology, production and the market come together. Investors joining us now will be able to follow that development from the front row.”
Mega Windforce expects to start production of the WR20kW in 2028. The company’s longer-term ambition is to further scale the WhisperRing technology to turbines with higher power ratings.
