About the performance

The ring structure acts as both rotor and generator. The design allows an airgap speed of over 25 m/s as opposed to existing direct drive designs, which are limited to 5 m/s. In addition, the generator works at high frequency with adaptive cooling, resulting in a significant 95% weight reduction of the generator.

Key facts:

N

80% weight reduction

N

Operational up to 25 m/s

N

Low maintenance and high uptime

The flexible and scalable generator starts at a minimum of 2 m/s and increases output up to 25 m/s; output can be optimized per wind area. The generator consists of various scalable units. This redundant solution results in low maintenance and high uptime. The rotorspeed will be held constant at any windspeed, so it will not cause any disturbing noise.

At each wind speed MWF is able to operate in the sweet spot of the generator with a high capacity factor. This makes the wind turbine highly effective at multiple wind speeds. This is a major break-through in the industry resulting in a 30% up to 75% increase of the annual capacity in MWh.

Key facts

N

LCOE can drop below fossil cost in wind-rich areas

N

The ring generator divided in many separate modules can be adjusted ON/OFF depending on the actual wind speed.

N

The design life time is 30 years with technologies proven outside the wind industry

N

Low and easy maintenance due to Carbon Fiber Reinforced Composite construction

N

Low noise (tip speed 59 m/s < 70 dB(A), whilest current industry standard is at 85 m/s, > 100 dB(A)

N

80+ % weight reduction due to the ring generator and used materials

N

Minimum use of rare-earth elements (only 70 kg of Neodymium required in 2m ring generator)

N

Reduced wake effect - more wind turbines per km2
